Roundtable Conference on First Nations and Métis Consultation and Accommodation: Seeking Common GroundMay 12 - 13, 2008 Saskatoon Inn Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Goal The Government of Saskatchewan's goal is to develop new policy with respect to consulting and accommodating First Nations and the Métis Nation which will result in successful relationships. It will begin this process by engaging Saskatchewan First Nations and Métis Nation, industry and key stakeholders in seeking common ground. Objectives of the Roundtable
- For First Nation, Métis Nation and industry participants to propose definitions, principles, goals and objectives; roles and responsibilities of the parties, and methods of implementation of consultation and accommodation that balance environmental and business interests;
- For First Nation, Métis Nation and industry participants to propose protocols regarding consultation and accommodation that are workable for all parties;
- To foster the development of relationships and reconciliation;
- To identify matters beyond the legal duty to consult and accommodate;
- To create confidence for First Nations, Métis and industry;
- For the parties to better understand each other by listening, learning, and expressing interests in a respectful way.
