Roundtable Conference on Consultation and Accommodation

On May 12 and 13, 2008, nearly 500 First Nations and Métis leaders, industry representatives and government officials gathered at the Saskatoon Inn for an historic two-day Roundtable conference on consultation and accommodation.

The Roundtable Conference provided opportunities

1. For First Nation, Métis Nation and industry participants to propose definitions, principles, goals and objectives; roles and responsibilities of the parties, and methods of implementation of consultation and accommodation that balance environmental and business interests;
    
2. For First Nation, Métis Nation and industry participants to propose protocols regarding consultation and accommodation that are workable for all parties; 
    
3. To foster the development of relationships and reconciliation;
    
4. To identify matters beyond the legal duty to consult and accommodate;
    
5. To create confidence for First Nations, Métis and industry; and
    
6. For the parties to better understand each other by listening, learning, and expressing interests in a respectful way.
