In March 2008, the Athabasca Development Limited Partnership - a joint venture of three First Nations and four municipalities - won the first ever Skookum Jim Award from the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, for the Partnership's success in furthering Aboriginal employment and involvement in northern Saskatchewan's mining industry

Saskatchewan is blessed with a diverse population that includes Métis and First Nations people. The government of Saskatchewan has a productive relationship with Métis people in Saskatchewan and the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN). In fact, the FSIN is one of the oldest First Nation political organizations in Canada, and the government of Saskatchewan played a key role in its formation.
