Ministry Plan and Annual Report
Did You Know?

The Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre was created by the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians in Saskatoon in September 1970. It offered classes in Indian history and the Cree language, and began collecting tapes of stories told by Indian elders.

First Nations and Métis Relations supports the social, economic and business development of First Nations and Métis people in Saskatchewan.

Pursuant to the requirements of The Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation Act, and the 2002 Gaming Framework Agreement signed between the Province and the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN), the Ministry administers Saskatchewan's legal obligations by distributing casino gaming profits to First Nations Trust, Métis Development Fund, and Community Development Corporations.

Through the First Nations Trust, a portion of profits generated by provincial casinos is provided to First Nations in the Province to facilitate social, cultural and economic development.

Saskatchewan First Nations & Métis Relations (FNMR) ensures that funding is provided annually to the Clarence Campeau Development Fund (also known as the Métis Development Fund) to facilitate Métis economic development by providing equity for Métis businesses, loan support to community economic development initiatives and assistance for the development of management skills for Métis business owners and entrepreneurs.

A portion of profits generated by SIGA operated on-reserve casinos is provided to local Community Development Corporations which support social, economic and business development proposals submitted by First Nations and non-First Nations organizations located in communities surrounding the casinos.
