Did You Know?

Métis people are the descendents of French fur traders from the North West Company or British and Scottish fur traders from the Hudson's Bay Company and Cree, Dene or Ojibway women.

The primary responsibility of the Lands unit of the Lands and Consultation Branch is to manage and coordinate Saskatchewan's obligations under the Treaty Land Entitlement process. The unit also performs a similar function with respect to Specific Claims.

Treaty Land Entitlement is a process where the federal and provincial governments are fulfilling Treaty commitments of land made to First Nations.

Specific claims arise out of a situation where a First Nation has had reserve land wrongfully or unfairly taken away by the federal government.
