Saskatchewan First Nations and Métis Economic Development Program
Did You Know?

In 2009-10, the budget for the Ministry of First Nations and Métis Relations increased by $17.6 million to cover anticipated payments to Community Development Corporations and to the First Nations Trust related to gaming and tied to the 2002 Gaming Framework Agreement.

The primary responsibility of the Lands and Resources Branch is to manage and coordinate Saskatchewan's obligations under the Treaty Land Entitlement process. The Branch also performs a similar function with respect to Specific Claims.

Treaty Land Entitlement is a process where the federal and provincial governments are fulfilling Treaty commitments of land made to First Nations.

Specific claims arise out of a situation where a First Nation has had reserve land wrongfully or unfairly taken away by the federal government.
