For the first time in Saskatchewan history, First Nations Chiefs from across the Province, the Premier, Saskatchewan Cabinet Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly gathered in December of 2007 at Provincial Legislature to share in a traditional celebratory feast.

First Nations and Métis Relations co-ordinates Saskatchewan's involvement in national Aboriginal matters to ensure that Saskatchewan's interests are represented at a national level. As part of this work, First Nations and Métis Relations:

  • Participates in intergovernmental meetings, including meetings of federal, provincial and territorial Aboriginal Affairs Ministers with the leaders of the national Aboriginal organizations and Premiers and national Aboriginal leaders; and
  • Participates in discussions and working groups concerning Aboriginal matters at the federal and provincial/territorial levels, including the Federal-Provincial/Territorial-Aboriginal Working Groups on an Ongoing Process and a National Aboriginal Youth Strategy.

The Aboriginal Human Resource Council of Canada is one of the strategies put forward by the Government of Canada in response to the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples.
