Did You Know? For the first time in Saskatchewan history, First Nations Chiefs from across the Province, the Premier, Saskatchewan Cabinet Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly gathered in December of 2007 at Provincial Legislature to share in a traditional celebratory feast. Métis Relations Métis Relations - MNS Tripartite ProcessSaskatchewan joined with Canada and the Métis Nation - Saskatchewan to establish a tripartite process to maintain, enhance and strengthen Métis culture, governance and the capacity of Métis communities and institutions. Under the original Tripartite Process Framework Agreement (1993) and the new five-year tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (1998), the parties are addressing the needs and priorities of Métis people and communities, with particular attention on Métis enumeration, governance, economic development and justice. Métis women's issues are encompassed within the activities undertaken as part of the tripartite process. First Nations and Métis Relations is the lead agency for the Government of Saskatchewan. Other Provincial departments participate in tripartite economic development and justice initiatives with the Métis Nation - Saskatchewan.
Chronology of Events… 1993: The Métis Society of Saskatchewan, Canada and Saskatchewan sign a five-year Tripartite Process Framework Agreement in June establishing the tripartite process 1998: The Métis Nation of Saskatchewan, Canada and Saskatchewan sign a new tripartite Memorandum of Understanding on July 24 renewing the process for an additional five years.
