Did You Know? On October 7, 1763, King George III signed the Royal Proclamation. The Proclamation established British protection over unsettled land belonging to Indian tribes, and recognized Indian title to lands not already colonized. Relations & Initiatives Urban StrategyStrategy for Métis & Off-Reserve First Nations People (MORS)Framework for Cooperation The Framework for Cooperation builds on the existing productive partnerships with Métis and First Nations people in Saskatchewan. The purpose of this Framework is to guide provincial government ministries in working in a respectful and sensitive way with off-reserve First Nations and Métis people in Saskatchewan. This Framework was a starting point for discussions with Aboriginal peoples, and other key partners in ensuring that needs are addressed in an integrated way. The proposed approach emphasized:

Premier Romanow announced the Framework for Cooperation and its objectives in January 2001. Communities identified four key areas for working together: education; preparing for work; participating in the provincial economy; and, individual and community well-being. Further community and stakeholder discussions occurred in the fall of 2001, and the Strategy for Métis and Off-Reserve First Nations People was announced in March 2002.
