Summary of Activities to Date
Internal Activities:
Strategic coordination of provincial government policy and initiatives in support of Métis and off-reserve First Nations people.
Linkages and potential partnerships with federal government departments to facilitate a comprehensive response to needs.
External Activities:
Coordination of discussions about the Framework with the Métis and First Nations communities to validate the relevance of the Framework for off-reserve and urban Aboriginal people;
Facilitation of partnerships in undertaking a comprehensive approach to needs;
Joint work with the Métis and First Nations communities to reach agreement on a common vision and joint priorities for action; and
Community discussions were held in several locations throughout the Province in the fall of 1999, the fall of 2001, and Winter, 2004.
Programs:
Participating departments and other partners will work towards achieving the common vision by implementing programs in response to joint priorities for action.
The Aboriginal Urban Management Authorities Program promotes Aboriginal community development through the development of urban Aboriginal service delivery institutions.
