Did You Know?

The Ministry of First Nations and Métis Relations, which combines the portfolios of the former Departments of First Nations and Métis Relations and Northern Affairs, was created on November 21, 2007.

Community Discussions

Community participants at the discussions confirmed the goals and areas for working together that were proposed in the Framework for Cooperation discussion document of January, 1999.

Based on the vision and principles, the Government of Saskatchewan, in partnership with Métis and Off-Reserve First Nations People, their organizations and institutions, the federal and local governments and other key partners, will focus our future work together on four key goals: education; preparing for work; participating in the provincial economy; and, individual and community well-being.

For further information about the community discussions, see the following:

Community participants tolds us their priorities for the future regarding education, participation in the provincial workforce, participation in the provincial economy, and improvement of individual and community well-being.

Objectives announced in 2001-02 now include timelines for achieving meaningful change in each of the four priority areas.

Aboriginal, community, municipal, provincial and federal government representatives were invited to continue a dialogue about issues affecting urban Aboriginal people in Regina. The June 5, 2003, Regina Urban Dialogue followed through on the Deputy Minister’s commitment at the December 3, 2002, Canada West Foundation meeting to hold additional discussions. This is a report on the discussions that occurred.
